"
Since Korea is located away from the main continent, archery has been the only martial art that is widely practiced from the old days.
There are the sword and spear, but they are rarely practiced.
There is one method of spear fighting on horseback, but it is not systematized and is only used for testing.
Thus, the methods of sword and spear have long been taken for granted.
Due to negligence, when the Japanese invaded and attacked our soldiers without fear of death, many of our soldiers, holding the spear and sword in their own hands, could not even draw their weapons and were killed.
This is mainly because the methods of using those weapons have not been taught.
All matters in the universe have their own way: for archery one must practice shooting the arrow; for firearms one must fire the gun.
When deployed in camp, soldiers should not wait for the command to practice to be given, rather they must practice the techniques of the sword and spear whenever there is time available.
Korean people use spoons for eating meals whereas the Chinese use chopsticks, both of them feel awkward because they are not in the habit of regularly using such tools. "
next page first 2 lines,
"If the spoon and the chopsticks cause such trouble, imagine how much more so this is true of the spear and the sword.
Although archery is the national art of Korea, it is not sufficient for national deffence."
The underline part suppose to be "why other arts were abandoned(or trashed) " -the orange part in the picture.
